On Wednesday 9th July, our Concert Band had the honour of performing again at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Now in our second year at this prestigious event, the band were truly outstanding - entertaining hundreds of spectators and creating a vibrant atmosphere ahead of the quarter-final matches.
We are incredibly proud of their professionalism and musical talent. A huge thank you to Mr James Robinson for his dedication and hard work in preparing the band for such a high-profile occasion. Click on the links here to listen to three of the wonderful performances: ‘Purple and Green’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Santana Medley’.
We are extremely proud of the cast, band, set painters and backstage crew involved in ‘Guys and Dolls’ last week. Everyone who contributed to the production was amazing, and every performance was superb. Well done!
Year 8 Journalism Club enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at the world of international news broadcasting. They had the incredible opportunity to sit behind the news anchor desk and present about our school’s upcoming production of Guys and Dolls.
Pupils also toured the studio and learned about the evolution of television cameras over the years. They were fascinated by how technology has shaped journalism and heard from professionals about the different paths people took to break into the industry. It was an inspiring day, offering valuable insights into the work that goes into delivering the news to millions around the world.
This week, 30 Year 8 pupils visited the Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon to build on their learning on Buddhism. During their visit, pupils listened to an informative talk inside the temple, where they asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated excellent engagement with the speaker. They heard about symbolism in Buddhism and they learnt more about the Theravada tradition of Buddhism. They had the opportunity to explore the beautiful temple grounds, gaining further insight into Buddhist architecture and symbolism. Finally, they took part in a session of Buddhist meditation, which many pupils found peaceful and calming. The pupils represented the school brilliantly.
On Tuesday 24th June, the Year 8 boys’ football teams took part in a friendly five-a-side tournament at Ashcroft Technology Academy to round off the football season. Three Saint Cecilia’s teams and three Ashcroft teams played a round-robin tournament, with one of our teams eventually finishing as winners. A great fun way to end the season for the boys.
