Our Artist of the Week is Evie F in Year 10. Evie created this moving painting as part of her coursework project, where she is looking at how people can wear masks and different personas that are contrary to how they feel inside. She used acrylic paint to capture a realistic portrait that shows an understanding of depth, tone and creating an emotion in the viewer. Well done Evie!
Earlier in June, our team competed in the next round of the English Schools’ Cup competition (team event) at Sutcliffe Park. There was a big step up in standard at this meet, with some prestigious athletics schools competing. Three out of four teams qualified, but unfortunately we could only take one team on the day.
The inter-boys (Years 9 and 10) all showed an exemplary attitude. The team were hugely determined to get as many points as possible in their two individual events to try and beat the '400' points mark.
The boys won the event by over 45 points, thanks to a nail-biting relay at the end of the day. They secured a total of 402 points - the most a Saint Cecilia’s team has achieved in the five years we have attended this event. The progress, team morale and focus were the best I have also seen in the last five years, well done to all!
We are super excited to announce that this year’s summer production, ‘Guys and Dolls’, will be performed on Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th July at 6.30pm in the school Sports Hall. It is going to be a fantastic show! Tickets go on sale via this link from Monday 9th June at 10am. Seating is reserved. Please book early to avoid disappointment!

Congratulations to Grace S in Year 10 who, for the second year running, has won the regional pop video competition run by the Institut Français. Please click here to see her winning entry ‘Temps ensemble’ which was written, composed and sung entirely by her. This fantastic achievement means she will now advance to the final round of the French Pop Video Competition 2025!
Last weekend, Gwenie S in Year 10 came second at the England Youth Fencing U15 Championships in Hertfordshire. This is a fantastic result. Well done Gwenie!
We are delighted that one of our Year 7 Music Scholars, Danny K, has performed exceptionally well in recent music exams. He was awarded Distinction in both his Grade 8 piano and Grade 5 flute exams. Well done Danny—achieving distinction in both grades aged 11 is a fantastic achievement!
The new cohort of EPQ students in Year 12 travelled down to the University of Southampton on Monday to take part in a research methods and library visit session. The day started with a workshop on how to find electronic resources on their topics, using Boolean searches, and finished with time in the Hartley Library searching the printed resources. The students found lots of resources to support their projects – now they just need to read them all!
