Head Boy and Head Girl Announcement

I am also delighted to announce that after presentations to their peers, a vote and an interview, Grace E and Jonas B have been appointed as Head Girl and Head Boy for next year. We are confident they will make a great team and lead by example as their exemplary predecessors, Jacob R and Samara C, have done. We thank them both for their leadership and support and wish them all the best of luck at university and beyond.

Citizens UK Debate at Westminster Hall

On Monday 1st July, a small group of student leaders and teachers attended the Citizens UK debate at the Central Westminster Hall. Key speakers included Deputy Labour Leader, Angela Rayner, Conservative MP for Richmond Park, Sara Gezdari and Liberal Democrats representative, Lord Richard Newby.

Citizens UK (a community organisation that creates change for people in the UK) will be working with Saint Cecilia’s to further ‘Courageous Advocacy’ with our pupils and student leaders so that they not only engage with school-focused concerns but also with wider local and national concerns including housing and homelessness, climate justice, citizenship and the refugee crisis, mental health support in schools, and proper wages and work conditions.

Polling Day

On 3rd July, pupils and students in all year groups exercised their democratic right in the Saint Cecilia’s School Election. Party Leaders and campaigners had been fighting hard for a fortnight to try to earn the support of the electorate, and on Wednesday the school Polling Station was a buzz of activity as pupils queued down the corridor waiting to cast their vote.

Sports Awards - Guest Speaker

We are thrilled to announce that the guest speaker for our annual Sports Awards is British Paralympic athlete, Lauren Steadman. This is such a coup for our school and is thanks to Mr Paul Hogg who is part of her coaching team.

Lauren Steadman MBE has competed in four Summer Paralympics, in both swimming and the paratriathlon. She competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London as a swimmer, before switching to the paratriathlon for the 2016 Games in Rio where she won a silver medal in the Women's PT4. She won the gold medal in the Women's PTS5 at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. Lauren was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to triathlon. She was also a star of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ when she competed in 2018 and has been a finalist twice in ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.

Roundnet Tournament - Most Successful School!

On Friday 7th June, the Schools’ London Roundnet Championships was held on Wandsworth Common, organised by Bolingbroke Academy and sponsored by Spikeball. Our pupils had been taught the game at lunchtimes and after school, and trials were held last week to select the teams. We had over 70 pupils come and trial for the 34 spots available.

A huge well done to all. It has been brilliant to see those who are playing the most after school and at lunch improving the most. We were the most successful school team at the competition this year! We hope they make the most of the roundnets at home. It is a great sport to build co-ordination and is so much fun for all.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

A group of our Year 9 pupils ventured on their Bronze DofE assessed expedition to Gomshall, Surrey, which was a great experience and achievement for them all. The pupils were amazing, demonstrating excellent skills both in their walking and at the campsite. They maintained a positive attitude throughout, even when it rained. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and how hard they have worked in all areas of the award.
